Foods That Slow Down Aging and Keep You Looking Young
Nowadays the market is teeming with anti-aging creams, lotions and gels that
promise miracle cures and younger skin. What the producers of these skincare
products do not reveal is that, what goes into our body is more important
than any other external treatment. The most significant issue to keep in mind
is that age not only affects our skin, but other parts of our body such as our
brain, heart, eyes, to name a few, start declining too, and
cosmetics can’t do much to slow down or stop this process!
Our body needs a healthy and balanced diet in order to absorb the valuable
nutrients that will help in the reproduction of cells, keep our immune system
working and give us the energy to get through the day. However, there are
specific foods that contain those nutrients, which can help slow down the
aging process. Although we are all faced with the dilemma of aging, we can
slow down this process by choosing the right foods.
A diet abundant in fresh food and rich in nutrients will promote our general
health and help keep us younger for longer. Regular consumption of particular
food types can really stifle the aging process, and eating these miracle foods
regularly really throws a spanner in the works for aging! The most beneficial
foods are those high in antioxidants and specific nutrients, which prevent the
degeneration of our cells, the first signs of aging.
Vegetables including cauliflower, broccoli, brussels sprouts and cabbage contain
anti-aging nutrients such as selenium and phytonutrients that help our liver
cleanse itself from harmful toxins. This detoxifying process will also stimulate
blood flow and help curb problems related to vision. Berries are another rich
source of anti-aging nutrients, for they stimulate the collagen production
in the skin and furthermore, prevent spider veins from forming. They are also
packed with antioxidants, essential salts and minerals that are excellent for
our overall health and as anti-aging remedies.
Nuts are the richest plant source of proteins. The oil content in nuts helps
lower cholesterol levels that attack the walls of our arteries. They are rich
in selenium, vitamin E and are high in fiber content. Avocado is a great food
type for slowing down aging. Although it is high in calories it is teeming with
vitamin E, which will enhance the glow of our skin and hair. The oils contained
in avocados are mono saturated fats, known as ‘good fats’, and are
rich in oleic acid, which also lowers cholesterol levels in the body.
Garlic and ginger root are also strongly recommended as anti-aging foods.
They are both antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and boost the circulatory system.
Garlic will also fight against bacterial infections and is a powerful antiseptic.
When in doubt between fish and meat, always opt for fish. It is the leanest
source of protein and is rich in omega-3 fatty acids. These nutrients will
lower the levels of fat in our body and prevent blood clots. They will take
care of our inner body and as a consequence our external appearance noticeably
improve.
Last but not least water. Water is essential to prevent the dehydration of our
skin. It also has a high mineral and salt content. The more water we drink,
the more toxins we will be getting rid of from our system. Our hair, skin and
general appearance will greatly benefit this natural source.
